Ranger Camp Relics

"I cannot do justice to all who, at the call of country, periled
their young lives nor show enough grief for the heroic dead
who sleep in unmarked graves...." L.B. Giles 8th Texas Cav.
Relic Hunter's Dance Part I (Larry and Nita)
Relic Hunter's Dance Part II (Nita and Papaw)
The picture quality is a little iffy but the content is priceless.

Check out these videos of how relic hunters catch catfish. Larry, Nita, and my favorite relic hunter and I had a blast. The pond is about a hundred feet from the old road that the Army of Tennessee used during the retrograde action towards Chicamauga.

Does this fit the description of digging relics till the cows come home? Actually the cows went home home about thirty minutes before this picture was taken. I actually got a pretty strong signal in the middle of fresh cow pie. If this were a Confederate camp I would have dug it. But since it is a Federal camp I think I'll wait a few days.

My buddy Larry gets a strong signal. Should he dig it?
Civil War Camp
This site is mentioned in many soldier's letters and diaries.
Civil War Bullets and Confederate Button
Dug these three items today from one of Roddy's Middle Tennessee camps. A three ring Confederate, a carved three ring Confederate and cool little button. My buddy Tom Ivery from Dixieland Relics beat me in quantity, finding several bullets, a buck and ball, and an iron sword hanger, but nothing could beat the super weather. Spring has sprung in Middle Tennessee.

Dug at new site today. Found a period mule shoe and Larry, well I'm sure what Larry found. But Nita found a ladle of camp lead. I guess that's girl power.
After a few hours of tromping over hill and dale I came across an interesting old cemetery out in the middle of  nowhere.

Confederate Letter
Confederate Letter
Here is a relic that has a cool factor that is off the charts. I recently discovered this letter in some of my Pop's effects. It is a letter that was written by my Great-great Grandfather while he was digging breastworks at Port Hudson, down the river from Vicksburg. The letter was written Dec. 27th 1862. He wrote to his sister that he would like to see the family but couldn't get a "ferlow". He was looking forward to a transfer to the 27th Alabama Regiment where he had some friends. He offers to send Ma some money as he had saved about $60 and he gave directions to his unit in case Pa wanted to come to visit. There are many other interesting details in this super artifact. How cool is this?
